Thriving in dry hot conditions Cinsaut is the ideal cultivar for the Stellenbosch region. So much so that during the 1970-80’s Cinsaut made up almost 60% of the farms total production. To pay homage to the cultivar that has been quintessential to Goede Hoop’s history we decided to relaunch this unique wine once again in 2020. The vineyards, entering their prime at 14 years old, are located on the outer boundary of the Estate.
The Cinsaut grapes were harvested on 8 March 2021 at 23° balling. The wine was fermented on the skin in open-top fermenters for 8 days with punch downs three times a day. From there it has been moved to mature in a cement tank.
The cultivar thrives in dry hot conditions due to its excellent drought resistance. Luscious red fruit notes of strawberries and cherries with a hint of peach. This wine boasts an intricate balance between sweet and savoury flavours on the palate. Cinsaut’s natural higher yield offers a gentle soft tannin structure, making it the perfect everyday wine.
This wine pairs exceptionally with Salmon fillets, Thai Curry, Pizza, Pasta and any other lighter style dishes.
